The alloy typically contains 18–20% chromium, 8–10.5% nickel, and a higher carbon content of 0.04–0.10% compared to 304. This mixture makes the material stronger at high temperatures and helps it resist rust and scaling when used at temperatures up to 870°C. The material is also non-magnetic in the annealed condition and weldable using conventional techniques.
The mechanical strength of stainless steel 304H round bars is one of its key benefits. They offer a tensile strength of around 515 MPa, a yield strength of 205 MPa, and an elongation of 35%, along with outstanding durability in both high-temperature and mildly corrosive environments.
