Nitronic 60 Round Bar

Nitronic 60 is an austenitic stainless steel part. This manganese alloy has improved corrosion resistance due to chromium content and excellent yield strength at room temperature. Nitronic alloy is not useful in cold form. This stainless has excellent mechanical properties at elevated and sub-zero temperatures. Nitronic 60 offers outstanding resistance and has proven performance in field applications. This stainless steel exhibits good hardness and performs exceptionally well in hot-rolled form. The round rods of Nitronic 60 alloy, identified by UNS S21800 round bars, are robust stainless steel made from a nickel-chromium-manganese-molybdenum alloy.


Nitronic 60 bars have maintained excellent ductility or toughness in elevated and cryogenic temperatures. Their composition improves abrasion and erosion resistance, making them more useful than other austenitic round bars. This stainless steel is manufactured with welded machining and used at slower speeds but with highly powerful applications. The Nitronic type of stainless steel is utilized in various fields. Some application areas include paper, food, petroleum, petrochemicals, pump shafting, etc.

One of Nitronic 60's standout features is its high mechanical strength, even in its annealed form. This enables the implementation of slimmer sections, leading to less weight and lower expenses. The alloy exhibits better resistance to chloride pitting, stress corrosion cracking, and crevice corrosion than 316L stainless steel. This makes it ideal for various applications, including aerospace, food and drug processing, oil fields, petrochemical plants, surgical instruments, and chemical processing industries.

Nitronic 60 round bar provides oxidation resistance comparable to Grade 309 stainless steel and significantly superior to Grade 304 stainless steel. This grade is best known for its superior wear and galling resistance.


Nitronic 60 alloy includes silicon and manganese, which help prevent wear, galling, and fretting even when annealed. By subjecting the material to cold working, higher strength can be achieved while keeping its fully austenitic structure intact. Unlike carbon and certain stainless steels, this cold working process does not compromise its anti-galling properties. On the contrary, it enhances strength and hardness without notably reducing wear resistance. Chromium and nickel provide Nitronic 60 round bars with corrosion-resistant qualities.
